Access OT Services offers a range of home or workbased assessment and treatment services across Metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.
Access OT Services specialises in the assessment and treatment of adults who due to injury or illness have difficulty participating in home, work, community or leisure activities, and with our client-centered and evidence based practice approaches will work together with the client, family member, care-giver or workplace to achieve a return to optimal independence.
Areas of Practice //
The use of specialised aids and equipment can greatly assist in regaining independence with many Activities of Daily Living. This may include small equipment items to assist with maintaining independence whilst living with arthritis; review of seating for clients having difficulty getting in and out of chairs due to chronic pain, arthritis or ageing as well as wheelchair and scooter assessments.
Access OT Services can assist client's access funding for equipment through:
- Transport Accident Commission (TAC)
- Department of Veteran Affairs
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) assessments can identify and provide recommendations on maximising a client's safety and independence with the perfomance of daily tasks. The assessment may include, but not limited to, a review of the client's ability to:
- meal planning and preparation
- cleaning and laundering
- moving around the home
- managing medications, household administration (e.g. bill paying)
- personal care
- community ADLs
- scooter and wheelchair assessment
Following the assessment, Access OT Services are able to determine the level and type of assistance the client requires in order to live as independently as possible. The assessment may also include recommendations relating to equipment and home modifications, and details where to source these including assistance to access funding, if applicable.
Whether it be due to illness or injury, you may have difficulty being a passenger in a car. Access OT Services can help with assessment of suitable vehicles and the best way for you to be a passenger in the vehicle.
This service involves a comprehensive assessment, and consultation to find the right vehicle or vehicle modifications to meet your needs, for example hoist to enable wheelchair access and restraints to secure the wheelchair in accordance with relevant Australian Standards.
Access OT Services are able to come to your workplace and conduct workstation assessments to ensure that workstations are set up in an ergonimically correct way to reduce the risk of injury, operator fatigue and discomfort. Of particular focus is the set up of:
- chairs, including education regarding correct ways to adjust
- computer and computer set up
- set up of commonly used items on desk, including phone.
Home assessments can identify and provide recommendations on maximising a clients' safety and independence within the home environment. A Home Assessment may be indicated if there are concerns regarding access to the home or safety within the home. Examples may include: difficulty ascending/descending stairs or difficulty in accessing the bathroom.
Following the assessment, Access OT Services will discuss with you recommendations to increase safety within the home, this may include minor home modifications, installation of rails and/or referral to services.
RETURN TO WORK SERVICES & WORK SITE ASSESSMENTS
Navigating through and supporing an employee to return to work following injury or illness can be a diffcult process. Access OT Services are experienced in the assessment of the environmental, physical and psychological demands of work - including work roles, workstations and workplaces. The assessment can assist in the identification of suitable roles and duties for employees on a graduated return to work, as well as negiotiating with treating health professionals to ensure appropriate clearance for tasks and hours.
